Self guiding tour of partially restored Salado masonry Pueblo. Very interesting. Information about local plants and how the native Americans used them. There was also a museum with artifacts and a movie, gift shop and book shop.
“You see the copper mine of the area everywhere. Learn the history!” Pretty cool to think this area was mined for copper thousands of years ago by Native Americans and now it is mined by modern Americans. Its a small site but packed with information and ruins to study. I take my whitewater river guides from the nearby Upper Salt River Canyon each year to reacquaint themselves with some of the local history to share on the raft trips. Enjoy!
This site of the well-preserved remains of a pueblo of the Salado people rivals just about any other archaeological ruins I've visited in the American Southwest. A must-see event hosted here annually is the Festival of Lights in which hundreds of luminaria (paper bags emanating with light) are arranged around the property. It's a one-night-only festival generally occurring the weekend before Christmas. It's an enchanting experience for the whole family!
